For a long time, I thought my love/hate obsession with Gwyneth Paltrow was unique. She wormed her way into my tender subconscious when I was a teenager and hugely influenced how I conceived of feminine subjecthood. Be cool and untouchable in your twenties so boys will worship you. Land a rock star for a husband and be cool and untouchable as a young, hot mom. Super productive, laudable, and HEALTHY goals!
I'm happy to say that I've matured, and Gwyneth no longer wields the aspirational power she once did. But when
sent me a copy of her new biography about Gwyneth, I swan-dived right on in. It's a great read for anyone who's ever felt a single thing about Gwyneth (who among us?!), and I was floored to learn that Gwyneth has maintained a lifelong habit of doing a gag face behind people's backs if she doesn't like/disdains them. Like, in front of others. Wild! But my big takeaway from the book has nothing to do with snarky facial expressions.
