Nara Smith is a young, thin, beautiful woman making beautiful food for her beautiful husband and their three beautiful children in their beautiful home. By momfluencer standards, hers is hardly a radical platform.

And yet, she’s been the subject of countless essays, mostly pondering the question: Is she, or is she not, a trad wife?

When I asked you who you wanted a momfluencer deep dive on, Nara Smith’s name came up more than anyone else’s. This surprised me because Nara Smith’s content feels like the opposite of mysterious. She’s a conventionally attractive woman playing into our cultural fantasy of leisured domestic bliss. It’s all so - straightforward.

Nara Smith is also a model repped by IMG (as is her husband, Lucky Blue Smith), and her videos are carefully orchestrated and boast a glossy production value. Some of her videos are “get ready with me” videos, some are “come shopping with me” videos, but most are “watch me cook something very labor intensive and elaborate” videos. Everything - from Smith’s Reformation meets YSL meets ALO wardrobe, and her Kardashian-contoured makeup - to the ways in which strawberries are diced - is just so. Smith narrates her directions in a calm, un-rushed voice, and both the combination of her mellow vocals and the lush visuals of the videos make her content ideal for ASMR.

Is Nara Smith a trad wife? I’m not sure. But I think our eagerness to answer this question is more interesting than the question itself.
