My Problem with Emily Henry's Men
Plus the product I'm determined to find a dupe for
I love Emily Henry books.
For reasons that are probably certainly wrapped up in internalized misogyny and my no-longer-held belief that joyful, smart, funny books about the complexity of women’s love lives are somehow less serious or less worthy of my time, I am very new to the glorious world of rom-com-ish books. But unsurprisingly (because, honestly, what’s not to like? Nancy Meyers in book form!) I adore them. And I especially adore Emily Henry.
Obviously, I’m not alone. As
wrote, Emily Henry appeals to all sorts of readers, not simply romance lovers. And I agree with Clara that much of the appeal lies in Henry’s characters’ imperfections feeling real and earned. But I have some thoughts about how these imperfections play with gender stereotypes.
