What MAGA momfluencers are saying about the assassination attempt
Momfluencers aren’t historically political with a capital P. While you might see some of them post about social justice issues or shed light on problems impacting their communities, you’re less likely to see them going off about their local governor’s race or specifically aligning themselves with a political candidate. This isn’t to say they’re not implicitly political pretty much all the time! But simply to say that they’re not typically posting about whichever John Doe is running for senate.
This is not true, however, when it comes to Donald Trump. Momfluencers love to love Trump.
In Momfluenced, I devoted a chapter to the momfluencers who use their platforms to spread misinformation, conspiracy theories, and white supremacist rhetoric, and in nearly every case, these (mostly white) mommies are passionate about Trump. Some of them think he was chosen by God to release us all from the Deep State elites, some of them think he’s an anti-establishment maverick, which is appealing to the “just asking questions” anti-vax, anti-sunscreen, sometimes anti-shoe mamas. Some of them likely support him for wanting to make America explicitly white nationalist great again.
