As someone who is bravely denouncing the entire concept of January, I have little appetite for anything in the book realm that doesn’t promise sunny beaches, low (or low-ish) stakes, and ideally, rich people behaving badly. Bonus if the book was written prior to 2016!
I just finished Emma Straub’s The Vacationers, and it was absolutely perfect for my purposes. Family drama, a European setting, copious food descriptions, engaging characters you’re immediately invested in. Carried me through the flu and I’m sad I’m no longer reading it!
