How do you love/hate social media?

Last week, I wrote about my very fraught relationship to social media. I love forging meaningful connections and learning from people, I hate being sucked into a vortex of shame, aspiration, and consumerism. I also wrote about how creating a strong social media presence/platform is indisputably good for my career, and it’s also indisputably not so good for my mental health and general wellbeing.

What about you?

Do you feel pressure to use social media for work? Do you feel pressure to use social media to keep up with actual social structures? Do you find some usages of social media less toxic than others (for me, perusing loved ones’ vaca photos feels totally innocuous and fun but maybe that’s not the case for everyone?)

And mostly, what sort of methods and strategies have prevented you from drowning in the overstimulating noise of social media?
