The world needs you more than ever, Sara!!!! THANK YOU for putting your book baby into the world. You may not like the idea of "birthing" and I feel you on that, but I feel like our books are absolutely our babies (anxiety and all!) and I for one can't wait to meet yours <3

"I don’t love the “birthing a book” metaphor simply because it feels reductive, over simplistic, smarmy, and somehow minimizes the intense reproductive labor of creating a human and the intense intellectual labor of writing a book. But I think there’s something to be learned from my flawed thinking that motherhood might be a shortcut to complete fulfillment and transcendance."

I love this so much ^^ and relate so strongly. The first book I wrote was a novel that was ... um ... not good and despite some amazing, detailed feedback from publishers to my agent, the book did not sell. And people were like "Oh you birthed a book!" and I was like "That, what, died?" Also, I birthed three babies and it's different. Hopefully this non-fiction proposal will go differently, but I still think it's different.

But I love that you pulled a lesson from it. It feels super true.

Goodreads tells me I marked Momfluenced as to read on Sep 8, 2022 but I remember going back to read prob 6 months worth of newsletters after your interview with Raena Boston who I also saw on Insta live with Kate Baer the week of Thanksgiving when my whole family had the flu and we couldn’t travel. I can’t wait to read your book! Preorders are always fun when they arrive in the mail, I’m so excited the countdown is finally only a few weeks!!

Love this. We are getting through it!!! Would not be surviving without our early AM anxiety texts.

Love every moment of this, especially the ambivalence around the birthing a Book metaphor, and the general maternal-yet-not ambivalence about being a Book Mom. ❤️

I pre-ordered the book from my local bookshop yesterday. Can't wait. And OMFG that "Fuck Mother's Day" notepad—I wish they sold it on the Gus & Ruby site!

I’m 100% here for your book promotion! Putting your work into the world is terrifying and you’re being brave enough to actually DO IT! That’s amazing and something to be proud of and shout from the rooftops about ❤️ I have an early copy and will be reading in the next few weeks!
