YES YES YES! A *perfect* summer book!!! I am such a Catherine Newman diehard fan - I just finished Waiting for Birdy this week which I ordered online because I couldn't find it in a single bookstore and after having reread both Sandwich and We All Want Impossible Things twice each I was like, "okay well what else of hers can I read because I must keep feeding my heart?!" And talk about a beautiful blend of sweetness and honesty about motherhood!

Catherine Newman's writing is indeed a national treasure and I am so glad others think so too! It is so rare for me to love *everything* an author writes, and to feel so affected by it. She's such a gift!

Catherine Newman *IS* a national treasure and I still miss her advice column in Real Simple magazine.

I think Sandwich was the best book I read last year for all the reasons you describe as well as the really specific sense of place. My girls (twins) are young adults now but when they were small, I craved (and rarely found) brutally honest discourse about motherhood. How hard, exhausting, irritating it is… along with all the glorious moments and the depth of the love that is almost indescribable. Thank you for a beautiful essay. :)

I was Catherine’s editor for a few years at Real Simple (non humble brag!!!) and she is truly the BEST. As warm and lovely and real a person as she is a writer!
