I am sure my sister will report back soon since summer camp signup time is coming up soon (I am lucky because my daughter isn’t starting kindergarten until the fall so I will still have her with me at her current school this summer); she usually shares how it went. It’s always crazy how quickly it’s summer camp signup time again.
Oh god, summer camp sign up is hell. And first year where I have two kids that I’m trying to book! But since science center scared my kid with the omnisphere shows, I haven’t even decided if I’m trying this year. I already booked our 1 week of the Y camp because it opened in NOVEMBER. I am talking about Community Theater camp this year too to add a new one! But yeah it’s honestly like 3 weeks away until most of them start.
I thought the summer camp one was hilarious, as well as the Butker one. I have unsubscribed from a number of newsletters I used to love and one of the reasons I will always keep this one is the humor so please give me lots of sarcasm and jokes! Personally I don’t do online community, I prefer in-person so it’s not super important to me, but I do like comments as they have been :) I am a teeny bit ballerina-farmed out personally but I just enjoy your writing so I will keep reading either way!
I am here for all the year end stats. I love stats! In my opinion the reason the BF / HF content gets so much pull is because they are just (a) very rich and we love to watch rich people - grew up loving that “stars they are just like us” content in grocery store mags and (b) their production values are just excellent. They are good at what they do. (C) I dunno, they don’t seem evil, just rich. Probably my personal politics lie somewhere between yours and theirs. I don’t feel attacked or threatened by your content or their content, so I enjoy both. I also will say that I’ve liked your page a lot because I found a lot of influencers to be really problemati and polemical around the election, see: Design Mom, and that’s just tiresome. I’m here for the arguments and the impassioned pleas. You are good at mixing both and if you wrote a weekly BF takedown I would READ IT ALL! This is why I’ve always loved Elizabeth Holmes coverage of the royal family!
oh this is FASCINATING frannie - and i think the comparison to royal family coverage makes a ton of sense! lol to the "star just like us" reference too. thank you so much for sharing!
The Unbearable Daniel of it All was my absolute favorite of the year. I loved every Taylor Swift piece especially the one right after TTPD. I remember that link round up- sometimes I just don’t have time in the moment to read the links and would prefer a more straightforward essay but I like to see what other writers are reading and responding to- I really liked the one last week about what you had read in November! And I finished The Wedding People and it was just as good as you said.
As far as commenting goes, I appreciate when more people share stories but I read your work regardless so I don’t know that I would appreciate it more. and I like the substack chats too, the times we talked about the royal family video and BF videos were very fun chats. Thanks for all your work, I’ve really enjoyed my 2 years as a subscriber!

I love the weekly WTFs/marketing analysis! It was one of the things that initially drew me to your newsletter.

THANK YOU Elizabeth! Yeah I feel like the chats ARE fun - sometimes feel more timely and specific than comments?
