How are we all post-election? I’m feeling mostly relieved here in New Hampshire. We’ve got a democratic senator AND the first trans man elected to state legislature! I know some of you live in states with far less rosy outcomes, so please accept my virtual hug.

My “I voted!” selfie. Obviously.

I started this newsletter in March 2022 after seeing an Instagram post I couldn’t not write about (and after my friend Virginia Sole-Smith told me “JUST DO IT” via text at 6:13AM when I sent her a string of profane texts about said Instagram post). And to be honest, I didn’t have a grand plan for how this thing would all unfold. I knew I wanted a place to write about absurd things, quirky things, enraging things, fun things, personal things, and hard things, but I certainly didn’t have a business plan, a concrete list of goals, or even a clear roadmap. I just knew that the performance and glorification of motherhood in America was directly connected to the work of mothering being undervalued, disrespected, and structurally unsupported in America, and I knew I wanted to write about it and would likely never tire of writing about it.

After a few months writing the newsletter I learned a few things.
