Why does the word mama grate on my so much? Obviously it’s adorable when my tiny child calls me that, but I don’t like to classify myself as a “mama” period. I’m a mom thankyouverymuch. I know Taza’s kids called her mama long after they naturally would have and called Josh Papa and it just seemed so weird to me. Like aren’t their friends going to think it’s weird? Haha. Sigh. I do miss Taza.
This is so condescending, like selling Barbie doll moms. Or it reminds me of the cafeteria-table mindset from high school — I was so over and done with that long before graduation.
I "opted out" of a shit ton of Mother's Day emails because, well, a) I'm a Grandma now (still mama to my 36 year old though!), b) My mom is gone, and this holiday is just one more reminder that makes me miss her even more, and c) Crap like this right here! But you made it all better with what you said, and that picture of you ROCKS!!! I finally preordered your book, too! I can't wait to get it!!! :D
Do not relate to that “tired mama” who is apparently not too tired for a full face of make up and perfectly done hair 😜
legit
Also important to note that all versions of the mama must be thin and white!
This is a great piece on "mamas"!

Also that model is not a mom.

The whole mom-typing thing is so unhelpful, but it’s easy to be affected by it without even knowing. I wrote this piece on moving past mom labels like: are you a crunchy mom or a silky mom? https://daphneberryhill.substack.com/p/milestones-in-parenting-how-first
Oooh can't wait to read!

Thank you so so much Roxy! And hell yes to opting out!
